It's in their best interest to find the fault that's not theirs and see if it can be worked around. That's what keeps people subbed.
For example, if it's due to an operating system setting, why not look into it and provide settings advice. Advice is free and people who might otherwise quit will stay because CCP took the time to say, "Hey. If you click this button, the game won't keep dumping out to the desktop".
The company i'm working on does SIP telephony services. It has special software named like 'SIP tester' which runs on some PC on customer side and performs testing of connection between customer and server. Then its logs are used when some problems happen. Recently we developed hardware solution which would be put somewhere on customer side, connected to network and then it will perform testing channel with SIP calls. Such solutions cost something about 100USD and will be given to customers for free (for the start). Some people call such things "worryfree".
Eve Online on the other hand 'recently' got special dedicated Launcher program which does nothing except choosing account to log in (i'm talking like regular customer here). Why this thingy cannot perform channel testing and report results both to CCP and to customer? Why we need to use 3rd party software to investigate problems almost unique to this game? For comparison i can play Counter-Strike on many different servers across the world and get no connection losses or lags but at the same time i have heavy lags in EveO when i have market window opened and it updates information? When i select group of items and use 'group sell' function EveO becomes unusable for some time. And yet, 'logs show nothing', 'test your ISP', 'test your hardware', etc...
Why EveO client hangs before it will report when 'socket closed' and needs to be manually killed using Task Manager (it closes itself but waits for quite some time for some reason)? Why i can get 0.5-1 second internet break and EveO loses connection but it waits for like 1 minute before 'detecting it'? I only can think about 'legacy code' which no one in CCP knows and dares to touch. Or noone really cares about it. No technology limitations involved.
